Build Stronger Teeth

Everyone knows the basics of good dental care. Brush your teeth after every meal, floss every day, see your dentist at least twice a year. It sounds simple. But what if you still don’t have strong, healthy teeth? Weak enamel can be a genetic weakness, or it can be caused by other conditions, like Celiac disease. I’ve always had weak enamel, so I started looking into ways that I could increase the strength of my teeth, and found that dietary changes could make a big difference. I started this blog to share my experience, and to talk about other ways you can make your teeth stronger and healthier. There are lots of things that you can do to improve your dental health. You just have to find them.

2-Step Guide To Whitening Your Teeth With Strawberries

If your teeth have become dull, you may be wondering if there is anything you can do at home to whiten them. If so, use the following two-step guide to using strawberries to brighten your smile. Not only are strawberries are loaded with nutrition, they also have whitening properties that can safely give your teeth a makeover.

Step 1: Rub Your Teeth With The Whole Berry

In this first step, you will be using the outside of the strawberry to rub your teeth. The seeds in the skin of the berry lightly scrub the surface of your enamel, helping to remove the top layer of plaque. The smoothness of the seeds also has a polishing effect. Rubbing your teeth with the whole berry also releases some of the juices, acting as a pretreatment before step two.

To scrub your teeth, hold the berry between your forefinger and thumb. Applying gentle pressure, rub the fronts of your teeth for about a minute. Then, lightly graze the tops of your teeth to remove any remaining food particles. After you have finished, go on to the second step.

Step 2:  Apply A Strawberry Paste

After preparing your teeth with the outside of the berry, apply a strawberry paste to the surface of your teeth. This step also includes a few drops of lemon juice to accelerate the bleaching process. However, make sure you rinse thoroughly after the treatment, since the acetic acid could wear down your teeth's enamel.

To make your paste, mash up the berry you used in step one, leaving the seeds in the paste. Then, add a quarter of a teaspoon of lemon juice, and mix thoroughly. Using a cotton swab, apply the paste to your teeth, and leave it on for about five minutes.

Once the time is up, you can either spit it out or swallow it, since the treatment is completely edible. To swallow it, rinse your mouth for a few seconds with some cool water first to remove the bulk of paste.

Once you have removed the paste, rinse your mouth once again with warm water for about 30 seconds. Then, spit it out.

After using the above whitening treatment every day for a week, you should start seeing improvement in the brightness of your teeth. However, if your teeth are very stained, or you want a more dramatic improvement, you may want to discuss your teeth whitening options with a cosmetic dentist, such as Christopher L. Schneider, DMD.
